ART OF EAST L.A.
Living in a multi-cultural city as we do, it is not surprising that the wealth of ethnic creativity is finally being recognized. I am a teacher in the juvenile court schools. My classes and I have been lucky to experience the efforts of these artists firsthand. Many Hispanic artists such as Diane Gamboa, Manzanar Gamboa and Curtis Gutierrez have shared their talents and lives with my class. The benefits from such unselfish givings are astronomical. Their talents are more than just “art”--they are “down to earth” teachers too.
