Rockwell International announced that it will halt production at a government-owned airplane plant in Columbus, Ohio, idling about 1,000 employees. In a news release, Rockwell said it had produced major structural components for the B-1B bomber for six years at the plant. The last of the B-1Bs that were ordered was delivered to the Air Force last week. Rockwell said it will continue aircraft activities at plants in California and Tulsa, Okla. The company gave no closing date but said final closure and disposition of equipment will take 15 months.
