Trammell Crow Leads U.S. Home Builder Listing

Trammell Crow Co., Dallas, placed first with 12,037 total units and gross revenues of $831 million in Builder magazine’s listing of 100 top home-building companies, based on housing starts.
Cardinal Industries, Ohio, placed second with 10,090 units and $611 million in gross revenues. Other Top 10 home builders included Kaufman & Broad Corp., Los Angeles, with 5,500 units.
Mitchell Rouda, Builder editor, reported that national housing starts fell in 1987 by 10.4% and attributes the decline in multifamily starts to loss of tax benefits, supply exceeding demand and the need for conventional financing.
