Motorcycle racer Ted Boody of Sapulpa, Okla., died Sunday of injuries suffered in a crash during an American Motorcyclist Assn. Grand National Series race Saturday night at Ascot Park.
Boody, 29, died at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center of massive head injuries, said track spokesman Ben Foote. Boody was in his 13th year of professional racing, and twice finished second in the AMA Grand National season standings, in 1977 and ’85.
Boody collided with Don Estep of Orient, Ohio, coming off the fourth turn on the final lap of the Saturday night’s main event, only 30 yards from the finish line. Estep suffered a wrist injury.
Chris Carr of Manteca, Calif., won the race at the Gardena track, crossing the finish line before Boody and Estep collided.
