The trial began Monday for a La Mesa man charged with trying to rape a Point Loma Nazarene College student and with making 26 obscene phone calls to women students after burglarizing their rooms.
Timothy Joseph O’Keefe, 32, a truck driver, is also charged with burglarizing six dormitory rooms and stealing women students’ pictures, prowling and possession of methamphetamine.
O’Keefe’s attorney, Michael Butler, waived his right to an opening statement until later in the trial.
Deputy Dist. Atty. Stephen Robinson said O’Keefe had a student directory in his possession. He is not a student at the college, which is operated by the Church of the Nazarene.
O’Keefe remains in County Jail in lieu of $250,000 bail. He was arrested Feb. 1.
