The San Diego City Council Monday agreed to allow the Old Mission Beach Athletic Club to place two 1,076-square-foot buildings at Robb Field in Ocean Beach. In return, the club will make $250,000 in improvements to athletic fields at the park by June 30, 1991.
The 6-1 council vote, with Councilman Bob Filner dissenting and Councilwomen Abbe Wolfsheimer and Gloria McColl absent, gives OMBAC exclusive, rent-free use of one of the buildings for 25 years. The other will be used as a meeting room by other sports groups that use Robb Field.
OMBAC, which purchased the movable buildings for $24,000 from San Diego State University in October, agreed to put them on the west side of the tennis courts after they were called an eyesore on the east side.
