The World : Iraq Presses Ship Attacks

Iraq claimed its 12th attack on a Persian Gulf tanker in 18 days, reportedly leaving 10 crew members dead. Gulf-based shipping executives said a tanker was hit near Iran’s main Kharg Island oil export terminal in the northern gulf, but other than the reports of the fatalities, they had no further details. Meanwhile, the death toll in Baghdad’s weekend raid on Iran’s Larak Island oil terminal rose to 19, according to Lloyd’s Shipping Intelligence Unit in London. Gulf sources, however, listed only two confirmed fatalities and several missing in the attack, which left five tankers ablaze at the southern gulf terminal.
