Local News in Brief : Closure Report Filed

Blaming Carson’s mobile home rent control ordinance, Darryl Wong began formal proceedings to close the Avalon Carson mobile home park, submitting a closure report required by the city code.
Wong, whose family owns the park at 616 E. Carson St., announced three months ago the family’s intention to close the park. He said the park would not close until six months after the city holds a hearing on the closure report.
“The park is old and will require substantial investment that we cannot afford to make because of the city’s rent control law,” he said, adding that there are no plans to develop the land--worth an estimated $10 million--after the park is closed.
City officials are reviewing the report. No hearing date has been set.
