Army Gen. Joseph T. Palastra Jr. will be grand marshal for Torrance’s 29th annual Armed Forces Day Parade, scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. Saturday in downtown Torrance and proceed west to the Civic Center on Torrance Boulevard.
Palastra will head what is said to be the nation’s largest civilian-sponsored parade saluting the military, with 98 entries, most of them military, and representing every branch of the armed forces.
Palastra commands all active and reserve Army units and monitors the training and readiness of all Army National Guard units in the 49 continental states, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.
In connection with the observance, military displays can be viewed through Sunday at Del Amo Fashion Center, and 5K and 10K runs will be held at 8 a.m. Saturday.
