Christopher Gore; Wrote ‘Fame’

Christopher Gore, 42, a screenwriter and playwright who was nominated for an Academy Award for the scenario of “Fame.” The movie, about students at New York City’s High School of the Performing Arts, earned five Oscar nominations in 1981 and eventually became a television series. It’s success allowed Gore to buy a home in England, where he spent much of his time. Gore began his career writing plays and large-scale musicals. One of his first musicals, “Mary,” about Mary Queen of Scots, had its premiere at Ft. Lauderdale’s Parker Playhouse in 1967. Gore reached Broadway in 1972 with the rock musical “Via Galactica.” His next musical was “Nefertiti,” a production about the Egyptian queen. In Los Angeles on Wednesday of cancer.
