Former UCLA Assistant Takes Temporary Job at Saddleback

Ernie Carr, a former UCLA assistant and Dominguez High School head coach, was named the temporary men’s basketball coach at Saddleback College, school officials announced Thursday.
Carr will replace Bill Brummel, who is taking a one-year sabbatical to work as a volunteer assistant under Bobby Knight at Indiana.
“I think that being at Saddleback will be a good opportunity for me,” Carr said. “I know that Saddleback plays in an outstanding conference where the coaching is very good. It will be a great challenge for me.”
Carr was an assistant under Walt Hazzard at UCLA last season and taught at Dominguez. Carr left UCLA when Hazzard was fired at the end of the season.
Carr, 39, will remain a teacher and athletic director at Dominguez, where he coached from the 1975-76 season through the 1986-87 season.
