Switzerland announced the expulsion of a Soviet Embassy science attache on charges of espionage. The Swiss said the diplomat, who returned home before Switzerland could publicly declare him persona non grata, was a member of the Soviet State Committee for Science and Technology. His name was not announced. A government statement said the diplomat built up contacts “over a period of several years” with manufacturing companies, research institutes and individuals to collect information about Western aeronautical and weapons technology.
