Woodbridge 3, Canyon 0--Junior right-hander Toni Gutierrez held Woodbridge hitless for four innings, but the Cowboys stranded seven baserunners and were plagued by their own errors in the second-round loss at Canyon.
Gutierrez allowed only four hits--one in each of the last four innings--and struck out eight, but the effort was wasted as the Cowboys failed to capitalize on several scoring opportunities. All three Woodbridge runs were unearned as Canyon committed five errors.
Stephanie Keeler, Lisa Shyer, Laurel Widner, Shawnee Danels and Sherrie Holt accounted for Canyon’s five hits.
The Cowboys (12-8) had runners on first and second with nobody out in the third and failed to score. Canyon threatened again in the fourth when Holt doubled with one out and went to third on a passed ball, but the Cowboys’ Cyna Schuster struck out and Rebecca Schuster grounded out to end the inning.
