Also blown away, so to speak: Daily Variety news editor Rich Bozanich did a double-take upon seeing himself quoted in those mammoth opening-day print ads for “Rambo III.” The reason: It was Rich Gold , of Daily Variety’s New York office, who waxed enthusiastic over Sly’s latest. Said Bozanich: “I think the last Stallone film I saw was ‘Rocky II.’ And they had to drag me to it.”
With “Rambo III” in full assault, we got to wondering whatever happened to Russell Mulcahy--replaced early in the shoot by second-unit director Peter MacDonald, due to “creative differences” with Sly.
Well, he’s not working the unemployment line.
He just wrapped the futuristic “Cyberforce” for Warners-ABC and “Max Headroom” producer Peter Wagg. Originally a pilot, it’s become a half-hour presentation reel intended for network brass only (because the original script couldn’t be revised during the writers strike).
He’s also been at work on commercials. And, reports a Mulcahy rep, “Highlander II,” which would reteam Mulcahy with star Christopher Lambert, is “in very active development.”
As for the “Rambo III” experience, we’re told, “Russell’s glad to be going on to new projects. And he wishes everyone with ‘Rambo’ the very best of luck.”
