Canadian Woman Sets World Swim Record

MONTREAL — Allison Higson of Canada set a world record in the women’s 200-meter breaststroke Sunday at the Canadian Olympic swimming trials. Higson, 15, was timed in 2 minutes 27.27 seconds, breaking the mark of 2:27.40 set in 1986 by Silke Horner of East Germany.
Earlier in the day, Higson set a Commonwealth record in the 200-meter breaststroke heats with a time of 2:29.41, breaking fellow Canadian Cindy Ounpuu’s 1986 mark of 2:29.80.
