POP LP CHART : Michael Holds Out; Hornsby, Prince Rising
- Share via
George Michael still has both the No. 1 album (“Faith”) and the No. 1 single (“One More Try”) on the Billboard magazine pop charts. But there could be some changes in the Top Five in the next few weeks. Two fast-rising albums--Bruce Hornsby’s “Scenes From the Southside” (No. 8) and Prince’s “Lovesexy” (No. 11)--look to be headed there. So is Sade’s “Stronger Than Pride” (No. 23). But another new album, Hall and Oates’ “Ooh Yeah!”--which started out like a Top Five candidate--has suddenly cooled off, stalling at No. 24. In keeping with metalmania, Judas Priest’s “Ram It Down” is zooming up the chart. It’s No. 41 after two weeks.
* Run-D.M.C., the group that brought rap to the mainstream and made it respectable--well, semi-respectable, anyway--has a hot new album that vaulted to No. 18 on the pop album chart in just two weeks. The album has definite No. 1 potential.
