Left in the Dust

Where will we be when the dust settles?

Since the beginning of January, we have started each day to jackhammers, ground tapers, cement trucks and dust flying everywhere. In addition, streets are reduced to one lane, and parking on both sides of the streets is almost completely eliminated. All of the people who used to drive to patronize us have by this time given up. Our street is just half a block from all the improvements taking place on Broadway.

The city is replacing sewers. The way the work is going, it will be a lifetime before it is completed. One day the street is dug up; the next day it is paved over; in a few days the same process is repeated. The sidewalks on Broadway are also being replaced with tile brick.

I am sure that, as soon as all the construction is completed on Broadway, we will get assessed for all improvements, just like the improvements on C Street.

In the meantime, our business is down and getting worse. Had we not been here for nearly 20 years, I don’t think we would be able to continue business. Since January, we have seen two businesses close their doors forever. Will we be next?
