A pit bull that had charged toward a group of children was shot and killed Monday by a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputy, authorities said.
The dog was killed shortly after it and another pit bull charged toward Deputy Randolph Lascurain and his partner, Deputy Carl Deeley said. The other dog was wounded.
The deputies were called to 87th Street and Compton Boulevard in the unincorporated Florence area about 10:30 a.m. to investigate a vicious dog report, Deeley said.
“When they arrived they found two pit bull dogs fighting in the street,” Deeley said. “Both dogs had a length of chain attached to their neck, indicating they may have just escaped from a home or owner. A crowd of about 40 people had gathered to watch the dogs fight.”
Investigators were unable to find the owners of the dogs.
