Former Vista Tackle Miller Leaves Oklahoma for SDSU

SAN DIEGO — Anthony Mitchell, a 1986 Times all-county offensive tackle at Vista High School, has transferred to San Diego State from Oklahoma.
Mitchell, who began practicing this week with the Aztecs, will not be eligible to play for SDSU until the 1989 season. But he will have four seasons of eligibility remaining because he received a medical redshirt last year after he underwent shoulder surgery before the season.
Mitchell, who is 6-feet 7-inches tall and weighs 305 pounds, said he decided to transfer to SDSU after he became disenchanted with life at Oklahoma.
“There wasn’t a family atmosphere at Oklahoma,” Mitchell said. “It was everyone for himself. . . . I wanted to play closer to home. I wanted to play somewhere where my family could see me play.”
