Margaret Ray, who allegedly broke into David Letterman’s Connecticut home last May, borrowed his Porsche, then told a toll collector she was Letterman’s wife, has been found competent to stand trial on charges of burglary and grand theft auto. Sander H. Fogle, a psychiatrist who treated Ray, testified Friday that she “has been restored to competency” and is capable of assisting in her own defense. When a toll collector in the Lincoln Tunnel asked Ray for the toll, Ray allegedly responded: “I’m Mrs. David Letterman. . . . Don’t you think David Letterman is good for the toll?” Authorities initially decided not to press charges at Letterman’s request. But Ray returned to Letterman’s house soon after being released and was re-arrested.
