Close to 6,000 women have submitted claims of sex discrimination against State Farm Insurance Co. as part of the process of implementing a January agreement settling a precedent setting, 9-year-old class-action lawsuit. Wednesday was the deadline for submitting claims under the settlement, which included State Farm’s agreement to pay $1.3 million to three California women named in the suit. Additional monetary awards will be determined after a lengthy process of evaluating the claims of women who said they were denied one of 1,113 State Farm sales agents jobs between July, 1974, and December, 1987.
