Fountain Valley Ranked No. 1 in Football Poll

Fountain Valley High School received all seven first-place votes to become the top-ranked team in this season’s first Orange County Sportswriters’ Assn. prep football poll.
Fountain Valley opened with a 22-17 victory over Mater Dei. Mater Dei is ranked ninth.
Santa Ana, which opened with a 28-0 victory over Newport Harbor, is ranked second and Mission Viejo is third.
In the featured game of the week, Fountain Valley meets seventh-ranked El Toro at 7:30 Saturday night at Mission Viejo High.
