New homes may be less expensive on average across the state but that’s certainly not the case in Orange County.
The average new home in the county cost $220,291 in July, said TRW Real Estate Market Information, or 10% more than the average used home at $200,399.
Statewide new homes cost nearly 4% less than used homes, the market research firm found: New homes averaged $165,427, used ones $171,826, which is traditionally the case.
But in newer, growth markets such as Orange County, new homes tend to be more expensive, TRW reported.
