Westwood : Funds Raised for Clinic

The UCLA School of Dentistry has raised about $1.3 million to buy a building to house the expanded Venice Dental Clinic, said Dr. Robert P. Thye, the school’s acting dean.
The clinic, expected to open in early 1989, will be located in the former Bank of America building on Lincoln Boulevard, across the street from the existing clinic at 316 Lincoln Blvd. The facility will serve low-income Westside residents.
Funds were raised through the Board of Counselors, a group of community leaders who serve as an advisory board to the School of Dentistry. Board members Robert and Marion Wilson, William and Peggy Bloomfield and Gerald and Liz Jennings each pledged $266,666 toward the building purchase. The Los Angeles-based Weingart Foundation contributed $300,000, and the Kresge Foundation of Troy, Mich., gave $200,000.
