An appeals court has ordered the Federal Aviation Administration to review its decision requiring commercial airline pilots to retire at age 60, officials said. The U.S. 7th Circuit Court of Appeals vacated the FAA’s decision denying 28 pilots an exemption from the retirement rule, even though they had passed health tests to establish their fitness to fly. The court ordered the FAA to reconsider its decision to deny the pilots’ request for an exemption. The 28 pilots, from several major airlines including United and Eastern, had appealed the FAA’s ruling last year directly to the appellate court.
