Schabarum’s Aide Put on RTD Board

Supervisor Pete Schabarum has appointed one of his aides, who lives in Walnut, as his representative to the Southern California Rapid Transit District board of directors.
Jeff Jenkins, a staff assistant who handles transportation issues for Schabarum, replaces former board member Erwin Jones, who resigned at Schabarum’s request because of disagreements between the two on transit issues.
Schabarum, a frequent critic of the RTD and chairman of the county Transportation Commission, said he wanted a representative on the board who will reflect his viewpoints and who can work closely with him.
Jenkins, 26, who will be the youngest member of the 11-person board, has worked for Schabarum since 1985, when he started as a student intern. He became a staff assistant in November, 1986. Jenkins graduated from Damien High School in La Verne and Cal Poly Pomona.
