Television View of Young Blacks

As a teacher in an inner-city high school, I could not agree more with Jeanne Taylor (“What We See on the Tube Is an Out-of-Focus View of Young Blacks,” Op-Ed Page, Sept. 9).
What decent young black males need is both equal and compensatory media time. For each film foot shown of the black gang-bangers with all their creepy regalia, the news media should be required to show three feet of young black men engaged in constructive non-athletic, non-rock star pursuits.
And anyone in the media business who thinks this is an impossible task doesn’t know enough about the black community to report on its affairs.
