As an ex-naval aviator, I feel compelled to respond to the flurry of letters you have received regarding the recruiting effectiveness of air shows (Sept. 17).
I joined the Navy to become a pilot as a direct result of seeing the Blue Angels at an air show. Since that time I have encountered literally dozens of other military pilots who were inspired by the flight demonstrations performed at an air show.
Only those who have little knowledge of the actual recruiting statistics could say that air shows do not help recruit military pilots.
