Northridge Climbs to 5th in Division II Football Rankings

Cal State Northridge has reached a high-water mark in the NCAA Division II football polls after its 34-23 victory Saturday over Idaho State, a Division I-AA team.
The Matadors (4-0) are ranked No. 5 this week. CSUN was No. 6 last week, the same rating it had achieved during the 1976 season.
North Dakota (3-0) is top-ranked, followed by Central Florida (4-0), Indiana, Pa., (3-0) and St. Cloud, Minn., (4-0).
After Northridge, Winston-Salem, N.C., (4-0), Texas A&I; (2-1), Troy State, Ala., (3-1), Jacksonville State, Fla., (4-0), and Cal State Sacramento (3-0) round out the top 10.
Northridge opens its Western Football Conference season Saturday night at North Campus Stadium against Cal Poly San Luis Obispo (1-2).
In 1976, CSUN won its first three games to reach No. 6, then lost to San Luis Obispo, 19-7.
