The Sacramento Kings traded guard Mike McGee to the New Jersey Nets in exchange for the Nets’ second-round draft picks in 1991 and 1996.
McGee, who set the Kings’ record last season for 3-point goals, 48, averaged 12.7 points per game during the exhibition season. His departure brings the Kings’ roster to 13. The team must be down to 12 players by Thursday, a King spokesman said.
The 6-foot 5-inch, 207-pound McGee, from the University of Michigan, was a first-round draft pick in 1981 by the Lakers and 19th overall. The Kings acquired him last December in a trade with the Atlanta Hawks for the Kings’ second-round draft picks in 1991 and 1995.
