Seoul Police Battle Students Attempting to ‘Arrest’ Chun

SEOUL — Student radicals fought pitched battles with riot police near the home of former President Chun Doo Hwan in Seoul today as they tried to “arrest” South Korea’s former strongman.
A huge police force fired barrage after barrage of choking tear gas to drive back about 300 radicals flinging stones and gasoline bombs and wielding steel pipes and wooden staves.
Witnesses said at least one student and a photographer working for a Japanese news organization were taken to hospitals with serious burns after being hit by firebombs.
Student leaders have vowed to launch almost daily attacks on Chun’s home until President Roh Tae Woo agrees to prosecute him.
