Cold Front May Bring Rain to Coast, Mountains

The Los Angeles area may see some rain this afternoon and evening along the coast, and an even better chance of showers exists in mountain areas, forecasters said.
“A fairly strong cold front is pushing into the Pacific Northwest and Northern California,” said Janice Roth, a meteorologist with WeatherData Inc., which provides forecasts for The Times.
That front will slide beneath a low-pressure system in the upper atmosphere, creating the chance of rain, she said.
“For Los Angeles to get a lot of rain, we need to see a wind from the west-southwest,” she said. “Right now the wind flow is from the northwest.”
Roth estimated the chances for rain along the coast at between 20% and 30%. But a 50% chance of showers exists in the mountains, especially the northern ranges, she said.
