Fire erupted inside an Encino steakhouse Sunday soon after the restaurant had opened to serve dinner, authorities said.
The fire in Monty’s Steak House, in the 17000 block of Ventura Boulevard, began about 5:10 p.m. when grease in the kitchen ducts caught fire. Flames quickly spread to the attic area and roof, Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Jim Wells said.
The restaurant had opened at 5 p.m., and there were four patrons and 15 employees in the building. All were evacuated safely and sustained no injuries.
About 45 firefighters fought the blaze and extinguished it by 5:35 p.m., Wells said.
Fire officials estimated that the fire caused about $150,000 damage to the structure and $50,000 damage to the restaurant’s contents.
