The California Angels, who finished 29 games out of first place in 1987, today named Doug Rader their new manager.
Rader replaces Cookie Rojas, who was fired eight games before the end of the season. Rader, 44, formerly managed the Texas Rangers and Houston Astros. Last season he scouted for the Angels. The Angels did not reveal the length of Rader’s contract.
