About 15,000 gallons of sewage spilled into San Dieguito Lagoon on Monday when a switch failed at a nearby sewage pumping station. The switch at the station, at 21st Street and Camino Del Mar, was repaired in 15 minutes but not before the sewage spilled into the lagoon at 2240 Jimmy Durante Blvd., said a spokeswoman for the San Diego County Health Department.
Since the mouth of the lagoon is currently closed, sewage did not reach the ocean, she said. The county health department posted six signs warning of the sewage in the lagoon, which is not open for recreational use.
