Settlement in Building Collapse

NEW HAVEN, Conn. — Families of 28 men killed in the L’Ambiance Plaza building collapse and the 16 men who were injured will share $30 million under a tentative $41-million settlement of all lawsuits, U.S. District Judge Robert C. Zampano said today.
Legal experts said the mediation process that led to the agreement may have averted years of litigation and was unique because of the number of lawsuits and potential lawsuits involved. If all parties sign, it would end all litigation from the collapse of the half-finished apartment building in Bridgeport on April 23, 1987.
