Firefighter on Way to Accident Scene Critically Injured as Truck Overturns

A fire truck en route to an accident in Spring Valley overturned Tuesday afternoon, critically injuring a firefighter.

Gail Noble was listed in critical condition with head injuries at UC San Diego Medical Center, and was still in surgery six hours after the accident, according to a nursing supervisor.

Noble, a firefighter with the San Miguel Fire Protection District, was driving a small rescue vehicle to the scene of a traffic accident about 2:30 p.m. when the truck flipped over at Whitestone Road and Jamacha Boulevard, said spokesman Gary Oldham.

Noble was taken to the hospital by a Life Flight helicopter.

The San Miguel Fire Protection District has appealed to the public for blood donations of any blood type to be made in Noble’s name to any San Diego Blood Bank, Oldham said.

Oldham said the cause of the accident was still unknown. The rescue vehicle was not struck by another vehicle, nor did it hit one, Oldham said. The California Highway Patrol is investigating, Oldham said.
