Marjo Matikainen of Finland, who skied 70 kilometers in five races, became the first five-time medalist in World Nordic Ski Championships history by winning a bronze in the women’s 30-kilometer race at Lahti, Finland.
Elena Valbe of the Soviet Union won the race in 1 hour 29 minutes 59.7 seconds, eight seconds ahead of teammate Larisa Lazutina.
