Consumer Confidence Rises: U.S. consumer confidence rebounded in February amid continued strength in the nation’s economy, according to a Conference Board report. The board, a business research group, said its confidence index rose to 122.0 last month from 115.8 in January. The index stood at 114.9 in February, 1988, compared to a base of 100 in 1985. Consumers are now more optimistic about the economy than they were in January, said the monthly survey, which covers 5,000 households across the country. The index had fallen in January from 119.4 in December as consumers worried about the huge U.S. trade and budget deficits.
