Long Beach : Transit Relics Sought to Put in Time Capsule

From rabbit-foot key rings to police radar detectors to old parking tickets, the Los Angeles County Transportation Commission is looking for a few good relics.
The public is being urged to bring along any transportation paraphernalia to put in a time capsule at the dedication Friday of the new $27-million light rail repair yard alongside the Long Beach Freeway, commission spokeswoman Erica Goebel said.
Everyone may attend the dedication from 10 a.m. to noon at the yard on 208th Street, a block east of Santa Fe Avenue and a block south of Del Amo Boulevard, she said. Mementoes of transportation from the past and present and projections of the future will be placed in the time capsule that will be maintained on the 17-acre site.
Goebel said the Jordan High School Jazz Band will entertain, tours will be conducted and there will be free refreshments, posters and pins.
The 22-mile rail line connecting Los Angeles and Long Beach opens in 1990.
