Martin Lawrence Galleries Reports $1.6-Million Profit

Martin Lawrence Limited Editions said its profit climbed 75% to $1.6 million in the fourth quarter, ending Dec. 31, from a year earlier. Sales rose 37% to $9.2 million.
The Van Nuys chain of art galleries, which is expanding rapidly by opening galleries in shopping malls and other locations, earned $5.8 million last year, up 92% from 1987. Sales in 1988 rose 50% from a year earlier, to $34.8 million.
