DRYDEN, Ontario — An Air Ontario jet with 69 people aboard crashed today shortly after taking off from Dryden airport, an airline official said.
Paul McKnight, vice president of the Toronto-based regional carrier, said some people survived the crash, but he couldn’t say how many. CKPR radio, which had reporters at the scene, said about 30 people were taken to a hospital. McKnight said there was a fire aboard the plane, but it was not immediately clear whether the fire occurred before or after the crash.
