Two Burglaries Disrupt U.S. Team

Two burglaries of an American judge’s room caused the U.S. team to take security precautions today at the World Figure Skating Championships.
Joan Gruber of Wyomissing, Pa., fainted early today while judging the men’s figures. “Her room was broken into twice in 48 hours, and she was under severe strain,” U.S. team leader Harland Burge said. Gruber was replaced by substitute official Shirley Taylor of Australia.
The U.S. team is under increased hotel security, and skaters have been advised not to wear their national practice uniforms.
