Civic Center Mall Urged

A civic center mall, which would create an “urban core” capable of attracting business and shoppers, would be one redevelopment solution in Norwalk, according to a consultant’s report.
The $50,000-study by Robert Charles Lesser & Co. said that Norwalk should create a modern regional shopping mall to counter the competition of Los Cerritos Center, Lakewood Center Mall and Stonewood Shopping Center in Downey.
The study said a new mall and office space should be concentrated to create an urban core at the southeast corner of Norwalk Boulevard and Imperial Highway where the City Hall, the Southeast Superior Courthouse, a sheriff’s substation and the library are located.
