Fred A. Mudgett, 68, president and chief executive of Rent-A-Wreck of America Inc., has announced his retirement, effective April 1. He will be succeeded by J. Richard Haigh, 35, who has served as the company’s chairman since 1986. David Schwartz, founder of Rent-A-Wreck, will resume an active role in the company’s management by becoming chairman. Mudgett will continue as a consultant to Rent-A-Wreck, which is headquartered in Los Angeles.
