A small fire in the basement of the Sheraton Grand Hotel on Harbor Island caused the evacuation of about 120 guests on Easter morning, authorities said.
No one was injured in the fire, which was quickly extinguished by the hotel’s sprinkler system, fire officials said.
The fire was reported shortly before 10:30 a.m., when employees and guests noticed smoke in the basement and on the first floor of the luxury hotel, said Fire Department spokesman Larry Cooke.
The fire fighters traced the smoke to the boiler room, where they discovered several smoldering cardboard boxes containing filters for the hotel’s heating system, Cooke said.
Damage was estimated at about $400. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
