Oil Rig’s Shell Destroyed

LONDON — The remains of a North Sea oil rig that exploded in July, killing 167 men, were demolished Tuesday, the rig’s owners said. The demolition of the Piper Alpha oil rig’s blackened shell, a project approved by the government in November, eliminated a serious hazard for shipping, an Occidental International Oil Inc. statement said.
