Larking Honored in Tennis

University of San Diego senior Jennifer Larking has been named the West Region Volvo Tennis/Senior Player of the Year.

Larking, 17-7 this season and 73-19 during her college career, is the first USD woman to receive the honor.

Larking is among eight regional winners in competition for the national award.

VOLLEYBALL

The U.S. women’s volleyball team will play an exhibition against a team consisting of former U.S. men’s players tonight at 7:30 at Torrey Pines High School.

Admission is $3 for adults, $1 for students.

SENIORS TENNIS

Bob Seymour (Del Mar) defeated Dick Fitzsimmons (Los Angeles), 6-1, 6-3, in the men’s 75s of the La Jolla Seniors Tennis Tournament at the La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club.

Pat Brown (La Jolla) was defeated by June Gay (Piedmont), 6-0, 6-0, in the women’s 60s.

YACHTING

The San Diego Yacht Club will play host to the 74th Sir Thomas Lipton Cup Challenge races June 2, 3, and 4 off of the Coronado Roads.

Defending the Cup will be the Cadenza, skippered by Bruce Nelson of the San Diego Yacht Club. Nine yachts will compete in the series of three races.
