A 42-year-old bicyclist from Orange was killed early this morning when a driver ran over him and dragged him 30 feet before she discovered the accident.
Francisco Rodriguez was riding his 10-speed bicycle west on Fairhaven Avenue, just past Dunas Road near the city of Orange, about 6 a.m. when he was struck by a car driven by Meta Wertz, 76. Wertz, driving south on Dunas, stopped at the intersection, turned right onto Fairhaven and knocked Rodriguez down, officers said.
California Highway Patrol Officer Keith Thornhill said Wertz, driving 5 to 10 m.p.h., apparently did not see Rodriguez.
Officials have not filed any charges.
