A single-car accident in Oceanside early Monday left one man dead and another facing possible manslaughter charges, police said.
Juan Espino Martinez, 21, of Mexico, was thrown from the car in which he was a riding when it overturned on North Santa Fe Drive south of Mesa Drive, according to Oceanside police. He was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after 1:50 a.m., Coroner’s Deputy Max Murphy said.
The driver, Jaime Cardenas Duarte, 26, of Fallbrook, and a second passenger were taken to Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla, Oceanside police spokeswoman Sylvia O’Brien said. Both were listed in good condition with minor injuries, a hospital spokesman said.
Police will seek manslaughter and driving under the influence charges against Cardenas, O’Brien said.
